Smashbox Eye Liner: Look No Further

I have mentioned my quest for a cat eye that won’t quit. OK, maybe just a “kitten flick” that won’t quit—I am an Enneagram 4 after all.

I have smallish eyes that turn downward at the corners (a middle school friend called them “happy eyes”), somewhat hooded lids, and I wear glasses most of the time. Needless to say, I need a little more than a good mascara to really make my eyes pop.

To date, the best eyeliner I’ve found is Smashbox’s Always Sharp Kohl Waterproof Eye Liner. There are so many things to love about this product.

Self-Sharpening Design

First of all, as the name suggests, this eyeliner does not need to be sharpened. Can I get an “Amen”?? I hate it when I am trying to get ready in a rush—which is pretty much always—and need to stop mid-makeup to sharpen something.  Ain’t nobody got time. The eyeliner twists up, and then basically sharpens itself each time you screw the lid on and off.

This is also a narrow-tipped eyeliner, so it is very easy to use for staying close to the lash line or drawing a precise cat eye (or kitten flick, as the case may be).

Excellent Wear

The other thing I love about this liner is the consistency. It goes on smoothly but is thick enough that it doesn’t smudge as you draw the line (it grips the eyelid to give you more control). This means that it doesn’t wear down quickly, so one eyeliner stick lasts me a long time.

It also is very long-wearing, and although not completely smudge-proof, it stays put better than any other eyeliner I have tried, even in hot and humid weather, so it doesn’t require frequent touch-ups.

The Cost

While this particular eyeliner is in the swanky category for me, at $23 per stick, their site offers “Free shipping, sample, and returns on every order,” which is AMAZING, since many sites require a minimum purchase of at least $35 for free shipping.

This means that when they have the product on sale for about $18, as they do on the date I am writing this, I can pay ONLY that amount (plus tax), without having to add anything else to my order to get it shipped for free. You can also sign up for emails or text messages if you would like to find out about sales, etc. when they happen!

BONUS: Savvy Saving Tip

One quick product-saving tip I would offer is to wait to twist the cap on fully until you need to move the product up and sharpen it. (Each time you twist the cap on, it advances the liner forward, which is not always necessary.) By half-closing the cap until I need to advance or sharpen the tip, I find that I am able to make the eyeliner last even longer than it already does.

So that’s the schtick on this eyeliner stick. I hope you find this product as eye-opening as I have (sorry—I couldn’t resist). 😊 Shine on, lovelies.
